THE HISTORY OF CAPITOL, IMAGE OF MODERN MADRID

In its more than 90 years, the building stands out as one of the most photographed because it is a true work of art. The Capitol has evolved over time, but without losing its essence or personality. With that timeless and avant-garde characteristic that it has, regardless of the time and fashions that are being lived, its aesthetics will always remain the same.

The Art-Déco style building became a symbol of modernity, as it is part of one of the most important urban development projects in Spain.

The Carrión building, better known as the Capitol building, once again has its letters on the roof, recovered with the essence of its inauguration. This same year, it hosts its first Musical, returning to the origin of the hall.

The famous Vodafone billboard that accompanied the Capitol sign on its rooftop is removed

The Carrión Building was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) in the monument category for its architectural style and iconic character on Gran Vía.

Schweppes, with its colorful neon lights, places its advertisement on the façade of the building. Poster pardoned in the 2009 banning of illuminated advertising in the center.

Premiere of the film Superman at the Capitol.

Director Alex de Iglesia along with well-known actors such as Santiago Segura, Alex Angulo and Armando de Razza replicated the building and the mythical Schweppes sign to film the movie The Day of the Beast where they were hanging from the Schweppes sign.

Inaugurated and opened its doors as a performance hall. That same year it was awarded the Madrid City Council Prize.

Construction of the building begins with the architects Luis Martínez Feduchi and Vicente Eced y Ecedlas. Construction lasted two and a half years. It was the first building to have a centralized refrigeration system.
