Paris, in the post-war years. Jan Bojarski, a Polish refugee, is known in the underworld as 'the Cézanne of counterfeiting'. For fifteen years, he maintains a flawless double life: while his family lives a normal life at home, he manufactures banknotes in a makeshift workshop with such precision that they manage to evade the controls of the Bank of France. This technical mastery makes him the obsession of Commissioner Mattei, initiating a manhunt that, for both of them, will cease to be a matter of law and become a personal duel.
